Hooking readers is important in a general sense, but it is also important in a craft perspective for accomplished and aspiring novelists. This contest is a great exercise in honing that skill. Even if you do not submit for the contest, check back for the results of this one (and her other contests) to get a feel for what it is that makes a great beginning.
